A Database Administrator is responsible for managing an extensive SQL Server estate across multiple environments, including on-premise and Azure. They perform tasks such as installation, configuration, upgrade, and migration of SQL Servers, and ensure high availability using Always On and clustering setups. The role involves performance tuning, query optimisation, backup and disaster recovery planning, and automating operations through scripting. They collaborate with various teams, support Azure PaaS databases, and handle incident resolution to maintain business continuity. The role requires a strong technical background with expertise in SQL Server, performance tuning, and cloud migration.
