A lawyer within local government provides legal advice in areas including information law, employment law, civil litigation, and trading standards, supporting council initiatives and compliance. The role involves managing data protection issues, handling tribunal claims, and presenting cases in courts and tribunals. Strong advocacy, negotiation skills, and the ability to manage a varied workload are essential. Candidates should hold a legal qualification conferring rights to practise law in England and Wales, with experience in at least two specified legal areas.
