The role
Provides professional interpretation for Haitian Creole-speaking patients across the hospital, prioritizing urgent and emergency requests.
Interprets and accurately conveys complex medical information, including consent forms, diagnoses, procedures, and discharge plans, in both directions.
Supports patients and clinicians with courteous, culturally aware service and directs patients to appropriate resources when needed.
Maintains complete, accurate records of services, follows department protocols, and logs assignments and changes promptly.
Operates in three modalities—on-site, video, and telephonic interpretation—while acting as a cultural broker to overcome communication barriers.
Maintains competency through ongoing training, ethics, and standards of practice in medical interpreting and terminology.
