The role
A musician performs solo or within a group in front of audiences or in studios, often rehearsing and practicing to ensure high-quality performances. They interpret musical scores and follow directions from conductors, producers, or composers, while participating in recording sessions, broadcasts, and soundtracks. Musicians also audition for roles, collaborate with artists, and maintain their instruments, staying updated on new techniques and repertoire. Many possess formal training and strong technical skills on their instruments or voice, with creativity and sensitivity to musical styles. Networking skills are vital, especially for freelance musicians, who also promote their performances and manage engagements. The role can encompass teaching or coaching, requiring a blend of technical expertise and interpersonal abilities.
