The role
The Senior Special School Nurse is responsible for assessing care needs and developing specialised programmes for children in specific schools. They manage nursing care for children with long-term conditions, complex needs, and behavioural challenges, providing advice and support to staff and families. The role involves working collaboratively with educational and health professionals to ensure children access health promotion and public health programmes. It includes line managing junior nurses and HCA staff, as well as training and developing staff competencies. The nurse will support children’s transition planning and monitor health needs through routine assessments. The role requires excellent communication skills, clinical expertise, and a commitment to compassionate, child-centred care.
