The role
A growing technology business is hiring a Lead Software Engineer to take ownership of its backend engineering function and help shape the next phase of its platform. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with deep C++ experience who enjoys combining technical delivery with mentoring, architecture, and modern AI adoption. The candidate will work closely with Product, Front End and R&D teams to enhance platform performance, engineering quality, and development velocity. Responsibilities include leading backend system development, mentoring engineers, and driving improvements in architecture and reliability, as well as evaluating AI tools for productivity. The role requires expert-level C++ knowledge, experience with scalable APIs, database optimisation, and AI frameworks. Candidates should have led technical teams and possess strong problem-solving skills in Agile environments.
