The role
The Independent seeks a dependable pool of freelance culture and entertainment journalists to source stories, live-blog major events, and report on cultural happenings. The role involves crafting accurate, engaging copy in line with the publication's standards, covering live events and breaking news, and working collaboratively within the culture team. Candidates should have experience at similar news platforms, with a proven record in covering high-profile cultural events and breaking news stories, alongside NCTJ certification and media law knowledge. An understanding of The Independent’s brand and audience is essential, as is the ability to adapt quickly and work under tight deadlines. The role requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends, with skills in digital best practices and audience engagement.
