The role
A full-time carpenter is responsible for reading blueprints and drawings to determine work requirements and preparing layouts according to building codes using measuring tools. They measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, steel, and substitutes, constructing foundations, installing floors, walls, and roofs. Their duties include fitting windows, doors, stairs, and mouldings, supervising other workers, estimating costs, and maintaining various wooden structures. The role requires physical exertion such as bending, crouching, and kneeling, often under tight deadlines in noisy and dusty environments. Skills needed include accuracy, client focus, teamwork, reliability, and judgement, along with technical competencies like blueprint reading and material estimation. The work must be completed on-site with no option for remote work.
