The role
A First Contact Physiotherapist assesses, diagnoses and supports patients with musculoskeletal conditions at their initial contact point, reducing GP workload and streamlining care. They provide expert advice on pain management, mobility, and recovery, and may refer patients for further investigation or specialist care. The role requires qualified physiotherapists with advanced MSK training and significant post qualification experience to work autonomously, request investigations and make complex clinical decisions. They support patients with complex presentations and long-term conditions, contributing to preventative healthcare initiatives within primary care settings. The position involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated community-based services and promote early intervention in general practice environments.
