The role
A First Contact Physiotherapist is a healthcare professional based in GP practices who assesses, diagnoses and supports patients with MSK conditions at their first contact, without needing to consult a GP first. They provide expert advice on pain management, mobility, and recovery, and recommend treatment or referrals to specialists as necessary. The role involves ordering investigations like X-rays and blood tests to facilitate complex clinical decisions, reducing the workload for GPs. Candidates should have a BSc or MSc in Physiotherapy, at least five years of experience post qualification, and advanced MSK training aligned with the national FCP/Advanced Practice Roadmap. This position supports early intervention, preventative care, and long-term health management, working autonomously within multidisciplinary teams.
