The role
A criminal defence solicitor or CILEX practitioner is required to manage criminal cases from initial instruction to conclusion, including court appearances, client legal advice, case preparation, and Police Station representation. The role involves advocacy across Magistrates’ Courts and Crown Court, conducting litigation, and maintaining precise case records. Strong communication, advocacy, and organisational skills are essential, along with experience in criminal law and case management systems. The position requires commitment to professional standards, client confidentiality, and awareness of Criminal Legal Aid procedures. Some travel across the East Midlands region for court and Police Station duties may be necessary. Candidates may currently be solicitors or CILEX practitioners working towards Duty Solicitor accreditation, with support provided for professional development.
