Principal AI Engineer

Mastercard is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to design and deliver enterprise-scale AI platform capabilities that help teams build, deploy, evaluate, and operate AI-powered applications securely and reliably. The role involves developing scalable architectures for AI applications, building production-grade backend services, establishing platform standards, and translating requirements into secure technical solutions. Candidates should have experience with large-scale system operations, backend technologies, cloud platforms, and modern AI application patterns, including RAG and prompt engineering. The role requires excellent communication skills for presenting technical solutions and mentoring teams, with hands-on expertise in Linux environments, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD practices. Knowledge of security, reliability, and operational readiness is essential, as well as experience with regulated environments and AI observability. The position entails contributing to architecture designs, security evaluations, and technological adoption, supporting a scalable and secure AI ecosystem.
