职位介绍
A BASICS responder provides pre-hospital emergency medical care to patients in rural and urban settings, attending emergency calls to deliver time-critical interventions. Candidates typically hold a certificate of completion of training (CCT) in general practice, emergency medicine, anaesthetics or critical care, with additional skills gained through the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Course (PHECC). They are tasked by ambulance services to attend emergencies where ambulance response may be delayed or additional skills are required, often in challenging geographical locations. Responders operate with specialised equipment provided by the Sandpiper Trust, including emergency medical kits and AEDs, and connect with Scottish Ambulance Service via dedicated technology. The role involves managing diverse emergency situations such as cardiac arrests, trauma or anaphylaxis, often as the first on scene, and requires excellent clinical skills, decision-making, and adaptability. The position offers flexible response opportunities, varying with location and personal availability, and provides the chance to work alongside other healthcare professionals and gain prominent experience in emergency care.
