The role
An estimator calculates build costs to ensure projects meet time, quality, and budget standards. They work closely with preconstruction teams and supply chain partners to provide accurate financial assessments aligned with customer requirements, legislation, and project scope. The role involves creating detailed cost plans, guiding design affordability, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting change control processes. Estimators manage project take-offs, compile comprehensive cost information packs, and oversee procurement schedules and supply chain relationships. They collaborate with design and operations teams to ensure logistics, programmes, and buildability are integrated into cost management. Technical skills in quantity surveying, cost assessments, and familiarity with industry standards are essential for success.
