The role
Responsibilities: Perform plumbing work across subway, surface, and elevated structures, including stations and tunnels. Install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures (toilets, sinks) and heating systems; test, dismantle, install, and repair pipes, vents, and hot water heaters; perform incidental painting and record-keeping. May serve as a flagger and respond to track signals; operate vans/trucks as needed. Work requires physical activities such as climbing, crouching, working in confined spaces, and outdoor duties in all weather. Education and Experience: 1) Four-year full-time plumbing apprenticeship; or 2) Four years journey-level experience; or 3) Two years journey-level experience plus two years of related helper experience or approved education totaling 600 hours. Licenses/Certifications: Class A or Class B CDL valid in NY, or NY driver’s license with a learner permit for Class B CDL (valid within six months of appointment). Additional requirements include medical and drug screening, background investigation, English proficiency, and clearance for permanent civil service status via a civil service exam; residency not required.
