The role
A senior database administrator oversees the performance, stability, and development of core database environments, ensuring security, resilience, and high availability. The role involves planning upgrades, maintaining backups, and optimising SQL queries to enhance application performance. Working alongside development teams, the administrator reviews changes and supports capacity planning to improve database architecture. Key responsibilities include monitoring system health, executing maintenance activities, and supporting incident investigations within an agile delivery context. Essential skills for this role include administration of MySQL or MariaDB, SQL optimisation, and disaster recovery planning. Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or PostgreSQL, alongside knowledge of data warehousing or NoSQL, is considered advantageous.
