The role
As a Junior Software Developer for Infrared Systems, you will translate mature Python prototypes into production-grade C++ or Rust to improve performance, stability, and deployability.
You will write and maintain Python code for scientific data processing, analysis, and visualization, and create clean interfaces so scientists can use the tools without needing to code in C++ or Rust.
You will profile Python workflows to identify bottlenecks, implement efficient equivalents in compiled languages, and preserve numerical accuracy.
You will contribute to data pipelines, hardware interface software, and documentation of reproducible workflows.
Qualifications include strong Python proficiency, demonstrated experience in C++ or Rust, and understanding of memory management, numerical precision, and build systems.
Preferred backgrounds include infrared/electro-optical physics, atmospheric science, signal processing, image processing, or related scientific computing.
