The role
Provide accurate ASL interpretation for medical encounters to support Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and hard-of-hearing patients in clinics, surgery centers, ERs, and hospitals.
Respect Deaf culture and adapt language to medical terminology, triadic communication, and emergency contexts.
Maintain patient confidentiality under HIPAA and organizational policies while updating interpretation techniques and medical vocabulary.
Collaborate with healthcare staff, manage changing schedules, and provide on-site interpretation with flexibility for after-hours needs.
Hold RID credentials (CI/CT, CSC, NIC, NIC-A, NIC-M, NAD V) and Oregon healthcare interpreter qualifications (OHA).
Travel within the primary service area and beyond as needed, delivering high-quality, culturally responsive interpretation.
