Sign Language Interpreter

Facilitate communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing students by providing interpreting and transliterating in K-12 educational settings.
Provide interpreting and/or transliterating in mainstream classrooms, as well as for extracurricular activities, parent meetings, conferences, and tutoring, as qualified.
Take notes for students when interpreting isn't required and participate in educational team meetings to discuss progress and IEP-related communication strategies.
Collaborate regularly with the classroom teacher and the teacher of the hearing impaired to assess and address students' communication needs.
Maintain confidentiality, adhere to district policies, and engage in ongoing professional development.
Qualifications include ISBE-approved hearing-impaired interpreter certification or Paraprofessional License with Paraprofessional Educator Endorsement Pre-K–21.
