Provide accurate sign language interpretation for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals across medical settings, including doctor-patient, professional, didactic, and group contexts.
Translate spoken language into American Sign Language; may transliterate and draft notes; use digital recorder and voice recognition tools as needed.
Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and ethics governing medical interpreting; apply Deaf culture awareness and cultural competence.
Serve as a resource on Deaf access and interpreter best practices; arrange alternate services when direct interpretation is unavailable and support related tasks as needed.
Maintain professional certifications (CI, CT, NIC) and pursue NIC within two years if not currently held; uphold confidentiality and accuracy.
Education: BS in American Sign Language; per diem, varying schedule, on-site at Rochester General Hospital.
